    What You’ll Gain: Learning Objectives

    By the end of the internship, students will:

    • Develop competency in working with trauma and related concerns in therapy
    • Build confidence in supporting clients with emotional dysregulation and dissociation
    • Strengthen clinical observation skills and case conceptualization
    • Establish and maintain strong therapeutic rapport
    • Learn to apply a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities
    • Gain insight into the business side of private practice, including consultations and client retention
    Clinical Experience: Types of Cases You'll Work With

    This internship will provide students with expereince working with:

    Adults navigating a range of trauma related challenges including PTSD and CPTSD, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, self-harm, substance use, out-of-control sexual behaviour, suicide ideation, intimacy and relationship difficulties, and psychological sexual dysfunctions.

    Many clients will be survivors of sexual violence, including experiences such as childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, marital rape, sexual harassment, and human trafficking.

     

    This internship focuses extensively on the treatment of trauma and the impact of sexual violence. If you are a Yorkville University student, you may need to request permission from your internship coordinator to complete a trauma-focused internship.

    Training in Evidence-Based Therapies

    Practicum students will receive training in and apply evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including:

    What to Expect from Supervision

    Practicum students will receive:

    • Weekly individual supervision
    • Group supervision (only available when there are two + supervisees)
    • Case consultations focusing on trauma
    • Guidance on managing challenging therapy dynamics, including suicidality, emotion dysregulation, trauma, and intimacy concerns

     

    Additional Learning & Professional Development Opportunities

    Beyond clinical work, practicum students will have access to:

    • Monthly team meetings
    • Quarterly “Lunch and Learn” training events
    • Training on conducting consultations and marketing a private practice

    Please note: This practicum is primarily in-person. While there may be opportunities to work with clients virtually, students are expected to see clients in person at our office at Spadina & Richmond in Toronto. We are not accepting fully virtual practicum students at this time.

    New Moon Psychotherapy is a Toronto-based practice with a specialized focus on trauma, relationships, and sex therapy.

    A psychotherapy internship at New Moon is an immersive learning experience in trauma-focused therapy. Students will have the opportunity to work with adults navigating challenges related to trauma and PTSD, intimacy and relationship issues, substance use, emotion dysregulation, and mood or anxiety disorders.

    Interns will gain hands-on experience applying evidence-based modalities while receiving structured supervision and ongoing training in a supportive, collaborative, and growth-oriented environment.

    Meet the Supervisor: Emilia Pacholec

    Emilia is a Registered Psychotherapist who works extensively with survivors of sexual violence and individuals who feel disconnected from themselves, their relationships, and their sexuality.

    Emilia is currently accepting 1–2 practicum students who are passionate about trauma recovery. Her supervision style is collaborative, direct, and deeply focused on your development as a clinician.

    She’s committed to helping emerging therapists build confidence, develop their clinical voice, and learn how to use themselves effectively in the therapy room. Emilia values compassion, curiosity, and individuality—and is especially excited to support students in becoming grounded, ethical, and genuinely awesome therapists.
