Our Mission
New Moon Psychotherapy was started with one mission:
To provide a safe, judgment free space in which trauma survivors and their loved ones can heal from difficult experiences.
Now a days everyone seems to be trauma informed, but being trauma informed simply means that you understand the impact that past experiences can have on mental health. This is often why trauma survivors have had negative experiences in therapy – they were not receiving therapy intended to heal trauma. They were simply working with someone who understands its impact.
What sets the clinicians at New Moon Psychotherapy apart from others, is that we are trauma focused. Our main area of expertise is post-traumatic stress (aka trauma). We understand its impact and we know how to treat it.
We are guided by evolving research in the field of trauma and committed to providing evidence-based psychotherapy. These are well researched treatments, proven to help survivors heal, not manage, the symptoms of trauma.
As culturally sensitive clinicians, we strive to provide non-discriminatory, and affirming care to culturally diverse populations and BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, and polyamorous communities. We respect diversity and differences in opinions, values and attitudes. This is reflected through individualized treatment plans which consider each individuals lived and generational experiences.
Why ‘New Moon’ Psychotherapy?
Across many cultures, religions, and spiritual communities, new moons symbolize new beginnings. In many ways therapy is a new beginning. By letting go of old behavioral and emotional patterns we are making space for new ones. By processing our traumas we are allowing new ways of thinking. By learning different strategies we create new ways of responding.
On a symbolic level, new moons remind us that life is cyclical. That there is a start and an end to all things and that after an end there is always a new beginning. Though it may be difficult to close the door on one chapter of your life, a new chapter is right around the corner. Every healing journey has a beginning. When will you start yours?
