Legally Involved Therapy Services
At New Moon Psychotherapy, we offer specialized therapy programming for individuals who are navigating legal involvement, court-related stress, or mandated/recommended counselling.
We understand that involvement with the legal system can be intimidating, emotionally overwhelming, and disruptive to daily life. Whether you are attending therapy voluntarily or as part of legal requirements, our clinicians provide a respectful, structured, and clinically grounded space to support meaningful change.
Our approach is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and ethically rigorous, prioritizing safety, stability, and skill-building.
Who This Programming Is For
Forensic / legally involved therapy may be appropriate for individuals who are:
involved in family court, criminal court, or other legal proceedings
required to attend counselling due to probation/parole conditions
referred or recommended for therapy by a lawyer, court, probation officer, or other professional
navigating anger, conflict, impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, or relationship challenges
experiencing heightened stress, anxiety, shame, or emotional distress related to legal involvement
seeking structured support while working toward personal and relational change
What You Can Expect
Clients can expect therapy that is:
structured and goal-oriented
grounded in evidence-based approaches (e.g., CBT, Duluth Model, etc.)
professional, consistent, and boundaried
focused on coping skills, insight-building, and behaviour change when relevant
respectful of client dignity and complexity (including the impact of trauma, systems, and identity)
We recognize that many people entering legally involved therapy are carrying high levels of stress, stigma, or fear of judgment. Our work is rooted in clinical integrity and the belief that meaningful growth is possible with the right support.
Important Note About Documentation & Legal Processes
Because therapy may intersect with legal processes, we take documentation and communication seriously.
Therapy is not the same as a forensic assessment.
We do not provide services that guarantee or promise a specific legal outcome.
We do not provide advocacy statements intended to “prove” innocence/guilt or influence court decisions.
We may provide documentation only when clinically appropriate and ethically permitted, and always within the scope of therapy.
If you are unsure whether our services are appropriate for your situation, we are happy to discuss options during a consultation call.
