• Kiara Tsagkaris, Registered Psychotherapist

Hi – My name is Kiara and I use she/her pronouns!

Trauma can change the way we experience our bodies, our relationships, and our sense of self. You may find yourself struggling with self-blame or shame, feeling unsafe as you move through the world, or feeling disconnected from your body, your identity, or the people around you. You might feel out of control of your emotions, stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, or unsure how to move forward. These experiences can show up as PTSD symptoms, dissociation, sexual pain or dysfunction, difficulties with food or body image, or challenges with trust and intimacy.

While opening up about these experiences can feel overwhelming, change is possible. You don’t have to do this alone.

I am an active and directive therapist, and I do not shy away from difficult or uncomfortable conversations when they are in service of your healing. Together, we work at your pace, building skills for stability, regulation, and grounding—while also being willing to engage directly with the parts of your story, patterns, and responses that are keeping you stuck.

My role is to offer unwavering support without judgment, while also providing structure, guidance, and clear feedback. I believe healing involves not only understanding what happened, but also reconnecting with your body, your values, and your sense of agency. Through this work, my goal is to help you move toward a life that feels more present, embodied, and self-directed.

Change isn’t easy, and there may be moments when you feel discouraged or want to give up. With a deep commitment to your wellbeing, we will continue to explore what support you need to heal and move forward in a way that feels meaningful and sustainable.

I am currently accepting clients for in-person appointments at 130 Spadina in Toronto.

    Approach and Professional Experience

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with a Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Bachelor’s (Honours) degree in Psychology, with additional academic training in Gender and Sexuality Studies. I bring years of experience from community-based work in shelters and organizations supporting survivors of sexual violence, sex workers, individuals impacted by human trafficking, and the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

My clinical focus includes sexual violence, PTSD and complex trauma, sex therapy, eating disorders, and perinatal mental health. I frequently support clients navigating vaginismus, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, dissociation, sexual abuse, disordered eating, body image concerns, and identity-related stress. I am especially passionate about working with queer and trans clients, sex workers, and those whose experiences of stigma, shame, or marginalization have shaped their relationship to their bodies and relationships.

I also work with couples who are struggling with the impact of trauma on their relationship, sex, and intimacy. Trauma can profoundly affect trust, desire, communication, and physical connection, often leaving partners feeling disconnected, frustrated, or unsure how to move forward together. In couples work, I help partners understand trauma responses, rebuild emotional and physical safety, navigate differences in desire and boundaries, and develop more attuned, compassionate ways of relating to one another.

As a queer therapist, my work is grounded in anti-oppressive, affirming, body-positive, and sex-positive care. I understand how systemic oppression, stigma, and shame can compound trauma, and I strive to create a therapeutic relationship that is direct, nonjudgmental, and collaborative, while still being willing to engage in difficult and meaningful conversations when they are needed for change.

I use trauma-focused and body-based approaches including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and somatic interventions. Therapy with me may involve structured trauma processing, nervous system regulation, skill-building, and experiential work that addresses both the psychological and embodied impacts of trauma.

Above all, I believe that each person’s journey is unique and requires an individualized treatment plan. You are the expert on your experience. My role is to offer guidance, structure, and evidence-based care while supporting you in making informed choices about your healing and growth.

Healing happens in connection and in community.
